All About Breast Lift Incisions

Breast lift incisions follow certain patterns depending upon the size and shape of the breasts. The effects will also depend upon the size of the incision itself. Advantages and disadvantages should be weighed as well.

Breast lift surgery can be achieved through a variety of incision patterns and techniques.  The appropriate incision pattern dwells upon the size and shape of the breasts.  The areola size and the degree of breast sagging are regarded as well.  The quality and elasticity of the breast skin together with any excessive skin are also factors that denote proper breast lift incision.

Most common breast lift incision patterns

There are actually three patterns by which breast lift incisions may be conducted.  First, the incision may be done around the areola.  Second, it may also take the first pattern together with a vertical position from the areola to the breast crease.  Lastly, combining the two patterns, a third one may be done horizontally along the breast crease.

Types of Breast lift incision techniques

Breast lift incision techniques could help the surgeon know which type to conduct on a patient.  The following are the surgical methods which could be done:

• Crescent mastopexy.  This technique requires removal of the excess crescent-shaped skin above the nipples.  It is known to tighten the peak of the breast and helps the nipple to be pointed upwards.

• Benelli mastopexy.  This type involves removal of the skin found at the edge of the areola usually characterized by a doughnut-shaped look.  The surrounding tissue around the area will be closed as well.

• Vertical mastopexy.  This technique gives the surgeon a better option to correct deformities of the breast.  As the name denotes, a vertical line from the areola to the breast crease will provide the incision pattern.

• Full Anchor mastopexy.  This type concentrates on an anchor-shaped incision starting from the areola base to the ribcage.

How does breast lift incision work?

Under the breast lift incision, the breast tissues are reshaped and lifted thus making your breast follow a better contour.  Enlarged areolas will no longer be a problem after excess skin has been removed in the area.  The excess breast skin is known to compensate for the breast skin’s loss of elasticity.

Effects of breast lift incisions    

Once the breasts have been reshaped and excess skin has been removed, the remaining portion is tightened as breast lift incisions are closed.  The lines are hidden by following the breast contour while some may be visible on the breast surface.  These lines may be permanent but in some cases, they may fade over time.    

Advantages and disadvantages of breast lift incisions

There are many advantages associated with breast lift incisions.  One is there is less scarring and the procedure is considered to be less invasive as well.  The surgical period is shorter than other procedures and lesser anesthesia is required.  It results to fuller and rounder breasts.

Disadvantages may also be seen as the scars may tend to be permanent except for some people who are lucky enough to heal the sights on their own.  The breasts may seem wrinkled and crumpled.  Adequate amount of skin may not be removed by the surgeon as well.
