• Inframmary. This kind of incision is less recognized than periareolar and may only cause a little discomfort when breastfeeding.

• Axillary. This kind of incision has the same characteristics as of inframmary.

Types of Breast Implants

Breast implant types may come in various forms and materials used. The most common types of these are:

• Saline breast implants. The saline comes from a sterile salt-water filled silicone rubber. It is filled during the surgery and maybe inserted through a smaller incision. This type of breast implant allows a minor modification in the implant size during the operation.

• Silicone filled breast implant. Unlike the saline, this is filled with cohesive silicone gel. Silicone is manufactured in different ways like oils, gels, and solids.

• Textured implants. This is a kind of implant that has a rough surface. It is intended to be implanted in one place and not to be moved.

• Smooth implants. This is an implant with smooth surface. It is intended to move within the pocket.

• Round implants. This kind of implant may also be textured and does not have orientation.

• Shaped implants. This kind of implant must be textured so that they are more likely to stay in the appropriate location and orientation.

After undergoing breast implant surgery, it is recommended that you take prophylactic antibiotics especially if any dental work is done. This is to protect the implant from infection for a short period of time. Expect another breast operation after some time because breast implant does not last forever.

After the breast implant procedure, you may be required a surgical dressing that may include a support bra or garment. You should follow your surgeon's directions as prescribed. Before you will be discharged, you and your caregiver will be given detailed instructions regarding your post-surgical care.
